We invite you to participate in our exercise programs, explore complementary therapies like meditation, or attend one of our creative expression workshops. Catherine Coe, BCC Helpliner

Join us for an afternoon or evening of knitting! Meet, mingle and trade yarns with local knitters. Have fun comparing patterns, sharing techniques and trading tips on stitches, sweaters, and mittens. Friends and family welcome! Complimentary snacks provided.

If you are new to this addictive, relaxing hobby we have some materials to share and experienced knitters who can help you get started. Crocheters are welcome too!

Yoga for Healing and Recovery

The practices taught in these sessions may help you deepen your breath and body awareness, relieve fatigue and sleeplessness, reduce anxiety, moderate pain, and increase circulation, lymphatic drainage, and energy levels. In this class, you will learn to utilize ten key yoga methods that you can incorporate into a daily practice (if you choose).

*Please note: Due to the limited number of appointments, clients can only sign up for four individual sessions at a time.

Healthy Steps

Pilates Matwork

This class focuses on postural alignment, flexibility, and core strengthening. Exercises and the flow of class are designed to address limitations specific to breast cancer-related surgeries and subsequent treatments. All levels welcome. If you’re currently undergoing treatment please request clearance from your physician before attending.

Tai Chi/Qi Gong

If you’ve watched someone doing tai chi, you may be fooled into thinking that the practice is only about slow, gentle meditative movements. While that is true, you might be surprised to learn that tai chi can also be a challenging, strength-building practice that develops not only balance but also provides opportunity for aerobic activity. Join us to learn how tai chi can help you to feel better during cancer treatment and enable you to better maintain your health during recovery.

Stress and pain are nearly unavoidable in our daily lives, but this stress can often leave us feeling frustrated, tense, and overwhelmed. In this class, you will learn to respond to stress with mindful, nonjudgmental awareness of our bodies and minds, instead of with irritability and self-criticism. The techniques you will learn aim to support you in alleviating stress and anxiety. Learn how to be fully present in the moment and focus attention on your immediate experience, to bring calmness and clarity to your life.

Mary will guide you through deep relaxation techniques for mind and body, helping you to tap into your own healing powers and lower your stress level. CD audio recordings are available for loan in our library.

This non-invasive, bio-field energy approach uses the hands to clear and balance the body’s energy. This technique helps restore balance, decreases pain and anxiety, and accelerates healing.

Writing Through Cancer

Second and Fourth Wednesdays

Using writing prompts and pens, we will  kindly and gently explore our relationship with ourselves—before and after cancer. No prior creative writing experience necessary.
